No Substitutes

Being a stay-at-home mom, I try to save money where we can. So, I do buy store brands on a lot of things when you really can't tell the difference. I had always bought Joshua Gerber snacks....puffs, crunchies, fruit strips...I think I have purchased all of them at some time or another. A few months back he started eating puffs all the time. We were going through a can every 2 days. So, I started going to Walmart & buying the Parent's Choice puffs. Fortunately, he doesn't eat them nearly as much now, but still eats them on occasion. A couple of weeks ago, we were at Walmart & I was on the snack isle getting some fruit strips when Joshua saw the puffs. He started pointing excitedly, so I handed him a can of the Parent's Choice puffs. He shook his head no violently & pointed back at the shelf. I handed him the Gerber container & he got so excited. I guess he was tired of the cheaper ones!

If you haven't bought Pedialyte lately, it is kind of pricey. After Joshua had a stomach virus around Easter, I found that Target has a store brand for Pedialyte, so I had bought 2 bottles to have on hand. When he had his stomach virus a couple of weeks ago, I got out the stuff & he took one sip & pushed it away. I tried 2 or 3 times to get him to drink it out of various cups, a medicine dropper & even a bottle. He would have nothing to do with it. So, I headed out to our local grocery store & paid the $6 or so a bottle for real Pedialyte & he drank every drop I gave him.

I think he takes after his Daddy!

Stressful Summer

Since things have been so hectic, I don't have any new pictures to post. I'll have to work on that as life settles back down....at least I am hoping things get more normal soon! We have been sick all summer. Joshua caught some sort of virus in June that gave him a high fever, resulting in his second febrile seizure & trip to the ER via ambulance. Luckily that seizure stopped on its own after about 20 minutes. Then John & I caught the virus a few days later. Luckily it didn't last long. A couple of weeks later Joshua caught a stomach virus, which John & I also caught a few days later. It also only lasted a few hours, which was good. Then Joshua got another virus a week later which gave him another fever resulting in his third febrile seizure & trip to the ER via ambulance...and his first hospital admission. This seizure did not stop on its own & lasted 40 minutes, taking lots of medication to get it to stop. All of his tests came back fine, so we are glad for that. Now we are just trying to keep everyone well! On top of all of the sickness, John started a new job & our house is still on the market. Thankfully there were no showings during the last week while things were so crazy. Ya'll can keep our family in your prayers, because we could really use some relaxing times!

Horses

While we were away this past weekend, we enjoyed seeing some baby horses with their mommies. They were so sweet! The babies weren't too sure about us, so they didn't come close for very long.

Joshua loved them!! This horse was very nice to let Joshua pet her.

End of an Era

John bought this house almost 7 years ago...before we met. There was a large bonus room which he worked really hard to make into a home theater. It was a great room & I remember coming over to watch movies with our friends before we started dating. Now that we have a toddler & are trying to sell the house, we decided to change the home theater into a play room. Here is the finished product! Too bad I don't have a before picture....it was a great home theater! We miss it, but life has changed alot.

Is he walking yet?

Can I be honest? I really haven't enjoyed answering this question for the past 6 months or so. I know that sounds crazy, but it is true. Anyway, all of that to say that the answer is finally YES!!! Probably five nights ago, he just walked across our kitchen all by himself to get his cup from the dining room. Then he was walking across the play room that night before bed. Don't get me wrong...he still crawls most of the time but each day he is walking more & more.

Allergy Testing

We had allergy testing done this morning to see if Joshua is allergic to fish....he isn't. He isn't allergic to anything they tested him for. The doctor did say that Joshua's episodes sound like a reaction to a yellow dye that is in alot of foods....including the breading of fish sticks. If this is the case, we don't have to change anything but may limit the amounts of these types of foods that he eats in a day. We really have run into some crazy stuff with our little one! His pediatrician also thinks he may have developed an allergy to the gel that is found in diapers! So, we are trying out chlorine free diapers to see if it helps. My luck, it will & I will be stuck using the most expensive diapers on the market until he is potty trained....which won't be any time soon since he isn't walking! He is making good progress towards walking though. Yesterday he let go of objects that he was holding on to & walked a few steps on his own to get to something else. This was a new thing...he usually will only let go if he is going to a person & only after you encourage him to do it. He's so funny...he starts laughing when he realizes he is walking by himself.
